Simon’s Super Saturday League

June 20th, 2010

Saturday saw the first race in the second Saturday TLI series at Cuckney. Simon Keeton was leading the series after 3 events with 15 points and with only 23 riders taking the start in cold windy conditions they were set a tough  7min handicap by the handicap guru Sid Ellis after much moaning at the start by the scatch group he allowed them to go 0.1 seconds early. The laps ticked down and so did the gap to the front group although the scatch group were sheading riders every lap with the hot pace set by Rutland lads Marc Mallender, Simon Keeton and Richard Lindsey with help from a few Sheffrec boys (but only now and again eh lads) With one lap to go the gap was down to 1m20s and by the time we reached Carburton Lakes it looked as if we were not going to catch the front group. Then a Cancellara motor fitted to Marc Mallender’s bike kicked in and with Simon on his wheel closed the gap and passed the front group to launch Simon into the sprint, a few of the front group riders grabbed the wheel and Simon finished a worthy 3rd to maybe hold the series lead.

Next race Saturday 17th July at Cuckney (Hq at Greendale Oak pub) 2pm start £5.00 entry (but you need a TLI licence)Please  come along and ride make it worth people putting on these events for you to ride!!!!
