Hills, Haggis & a wee dram – 28 January 2017

08 Jan
January 8, 2017

Just a reminder that the ‘Burns’ Night’ social is coming up on Saturday 28th January.
@_PiEeyed are doing the catering and are providing haggis pies; mash and neeps (mashed turnip) and there is a vegan option.
The Blake Hotel in Walkley for £10 per person will give us a selection of whisky to sample with the meal which, if 20 people come along it works out at £6 a head for food so £16 per person is pretty reasonable.
Bob Cuff is organising and has nearly 20 names on his list but if you’ve not let him know yet that you’re coming then please get in touch via the Club website, Facebook or Twitter – @rutlandcc or @bobcuff_1

Obituary – Bert Ridge

January 4, 2017

A belated Happy New Year to all Rutlers….
Not the best way to start the year but I received a message last night from Andrew Ridge letting me know that his dad Bert Ridge, long-term Rutland stalwart passed away peacefully in St Luke’s last night (3 Jan.2017) around 6pm with his family around him. I believe Bert was about 93 but he’s pictured here from a Club run back in the 1950’s.bert-ridge-club-run-1950s

Let us know via email, Facebook, Twitter, text or the good old telephone if you’re coming. Price will probably be much the same as last year, £18 – £20 payable on the day in cash.

Obituary – Glynn Singleton

28 Sep
September 28, 2016

I received a phone call this evening with some very sad news from Keith Parker informing me that his brother in law Glynn Singleton passed away at home yesterday (27 Sept.2016)
Glynn turned this year 70 and had recently had a few health issues. There will be a post mortem tomorrow so I do not know any other details at this time.
This news has come as a complete shock to me.
I knew Glynn very well as we rode many events together when he came into the sport in the early 1990’s.
Our thoughts go out to the family especially his wife Barbara and their children James and Fay.

Jayne, Emma, Gareth and Jonathan would like to express their thanks to all members of the Rutland CC who attended Chris’s funeral and for their kind donations to the nominated charities. The total amount raised in Chris’s memory was £1230.
They would also like to thank everyone for their kind words of support and sympathy shown, also for the floral tribute that was provided; all of which are very much appreciated.

Obituary – Stuart (Joe) Thompson

05 Jul
July 5, 2016

I recceived a phone call last night informing me that Stuart (Joe) Thomspson passed away on the 24th June 2016.
Joe was in his late 80’s and riding for the Rutland CC was the National 24 Hour Champion way back in 1954 and was also part of the Club’s winning team in that event from 1955 – 1958.

The only details I have of Joe’s funeral are that it is in Ollerton on Monday 25th July at 2pm and then afterwards at the Lion Hotel in Worksop.

Obituary – Chris Faulkner (Max)

03 Jul
July 3, 2016

Some of you may have already heard over the weekend that one of our older members Chris Faulkner (aka Max) passed away suddenly on Thursday (30 June 2016).

Chris was a member of the Club during the late 70’s through to the 1990’s and worked at Tony Butterworths on Catchbar Lane. A change of job and location meant we didn’t see him for a few years as he relocated down on the South Coast but he then reappeared when he took over Tony’s shop and business when Tony retired.

Chris’s funeral will be on Wednesday 20th July, 2pm at St Mark’s Church Grenoside and then at the Grenoside Crematorium.
Refreshments and the wake will be in the Grenoside Church Hall, to which all are invited.

Tumby’s Road Race 2016

25 Jun
June 25, 2016

Sunday 24th July is the date for your diaries and is a day off from training and racing as it’s OUR turn to promote.

After last years problems hopefully this years will run smoothly and Steve Ellis is again organising the event on behalf of the Club but he needs OUR help.

The event will be held on the Braitwell circuit near Rotherham, a 10am start with the event being 65 miles.

Steve still has the list of helpers from last year and is hoping that those people will all be able to help out this year, he needs 5 cars/drivers and they have to be BC members and a minimum of 20 marshals.

If you can help then PLEASE get in touch with Steve on our Facebook page or direct via mobile / email.
