Most of you will have heard the latest news as I posted it on our Facebook page but for those of you that didn’t, Geoff Hague emailed to let me know that only 11 weeks after losing her husband Gordon, Barbara Scott passed away on Tuesday afternoon (26th May 2015). She had a brain tumour which spread to her spinal cord; she then developed pneumonia from which she passed away.
Our thoughts go out to their daughters Linsey and Gillian. If anybody wants Barbara’s home adddress to send a card then please email me at
Barbaras funeral will be held at the Hutcliffe Wood crematorium, 11:30 on Tuesday 9th June and afterwards at the Double Tree Hotel, Meadowhead, S8 8BW.

I received an email yesterday informing me that George Steers had a fall at home and was admitted to the Northern General Hospital with a broken femur and developed pneumonia. George was conscious but he couldn’t talk and was having great difficulty breathing,
Sadly he passed away today (Wednesday 29th April 2015).
There will be no funeral arrangements until after the 9th May as Georges cousin Mike is on holiday until then and he will be making the arrangements.
Any further updates will be posted on here and our Facebook page / Rutland Cycling Club (Sheffield)

Minty’s 2015 RR postponed until September.

07 Mar
March 7, 2015

Along with Andy’s health issues this year’s event was to clash with the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire and the Vets Tour of the Abberleys so it was decided to postpone Minty’s event until Sunday 6th September when hopefully there will be a few more Club members around to help promote the event.

Obituary – Malcolm Cross

05 Nov
November 5, 2014

Neil Cross has been in touch today to inform us that his father and long-time Rutland member Malcolm Cross passed away yesterday (4th Nov 2014). Many people especially the older members will know that he had a stroke 7 years ago, but had been living independently since. His health deteriorated recently and he had to stop doing his 15 mile hikes in the peaks last summer. He did take his bike out a few times after his stroke (one-handed and partly one-legged) which only stopped when he failed to mend his puncture and was probably a good idea all round.
Known as Koj to a lot of people Malc was part of the old Thursday night gang along with John Barnsley, Malc Pearce, Malc Elliott, Johnny Bargh, the Pickering brothers Les and Brian and Malc Chattle.

Malcolms’ funeral will be on Monday 17th November at St Timothy’s Church on Slinn Street, Crookes at 2.15 followed by the burial at Crookes Cemetery about 3ish, and then up to the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow from 4.30pm onwards. Any flowers to John Heath and Son.

Obituary – Barry Crowther

05 Nov
November 5, 2014

It was reported that one our ex-members Barry Crowther passed away on Sunday 2nd November 2014, it is understood that Barry had suffered a heart attack whilst out on his bike near Baslow. Barry was a member member of the Club during the late 90’s and did some fast times on his tandem with Dave Clarkson.
Our thoughts are with his wife Janet and their daughter Joanne.
The funeral will be on Friday 14th November, 3:30pm at Hutcliffe Wood and then afterwards at the White Hart in Greenhill.

Tumby’s Road Race – 2014

11 Jun
June 11, 2014

First and foremost the date has changed from Sunday 10th August to Sunday 3rd August.
Steve has kindly agreed to move our event forward a week so as not to clash with the newly organised Pontefract Grand Prix on the afternoon of the 10th.
With the recent trouble we’ve been having with road race courses in Nottinghamshire Steve is hoping to run Tumby’s Road Race on a larger circuit at Braithwell that is also used for the Out of the Saddle Road Race later in the year.
With the bigger circuit also comes the need for more marshals so I’m asking now rather than a week before the event, if YOU can help Steve out and not leave it to him to rally round his family and friends at the last minute.
This is the second of four events that the Club is promoting this year so please try and do your bit and keep this and other events going for the future of our sport.
It’s a 10 o’clock start and the event is 68 mile so it should be all over by about 1pm.
Steve can be contacted by email, pigeon post or the good old dog and bone, his details have been circulated via email but contact us through this website and we’ll forward your details.

Christmas Fancy Dress Dinner – 22 December 2013

07 Dec
December 7, 2013

Yes it’s that time of year so you need to start looking through your wardrobes for your fancy dress outfit. We’re back at the Cheshire Cheese in Hope this year for our Christmas dinner.
Usual meet at the ‘teacake’ at 11 o’clock and we’ll probably call in at the Little John in Hathersage for a swift half before riding onto Hope for our lunch.
