November 5, 2014

It was reported that one our ex-members Barry Crowther passed away on Sunday 2nd November 2014, it is understood that Barry had suffered a heart attack whilst out on his bike near Baslow. Barry was a member member of the Club during the late 90’s and did some fast times on his tandem with Dave Clarkson.
Our thoughts are with his wife Janet and their daughter Joanne.
The funeral will be on Friday 14th November, 3:30pm at Hutcliffe Wood and then afterwards at the White Hart in Greenhill.

Tumby’s Road Race – 2014

11 Jun
June 11, 2014

First and foremost the date has changed from Sunday 10th August to Sunday 3rd August.
Steve has kindly agreed to move our event forward a week so as not to clash with the newly organised Pontefract Grand Prix on the afternoon of the 10th.
With the recent trouble we’ve been having with road race courses in Nottinghamshire Steve is hoping to run Tumby’s Road Race on a larger circuit at Braithwell that is also used for the Out of the Saddle Road Race later in the year.
With the bigger circuit also comes the need for more marshals so I’m asking now rather than a week before the event, if YOU can help Steve out and not leave it to him to rally round his family and friends at the last minute.
This is the second of four events that the Club is promoting this year so please try and do your bit and keep this and other events going for the future of our sport.
It’s a 10 o’clock start and the event is 68 mile so it should be all over by about 1pm.
Steve can be contacted by email, pigeon post or the good old dog and bone, his details have been circulated via email but contact us through this website and we’ll forward your details.

Nev Crane Memorial 25 mile TT – Sleaford Wheelers

04 Jun
June 4, 2014

Had an email from the organiser of this event and the prize list looks very impressive… anyone riding??

The Sleaford Wheelers Nev Crane Memorial 25 mile TT is once again on the horizon. The date is 20th July. Since this popular event first appeared on the Calendar it has been arguably the richest and best supported TT in Lincs DC. It is now its 8th year and it is hoped that another fine entry will happen. Usually the event attracts around 100 riders.

Last year Matt Bottrill lowered his course and event record for the single carriageway C25/35 course to 50:04. With three 49 minute rides in the previous months National 25 in Lincs District, Matt’s time is the 4th quickest ever recorded in the County.

Once again the event offers around £900 in prize awards with £200 being ring fenced just for the ladies.

I hope that I have aroused some interest. The Prospectus and Details of how to enter are as under:

Bike hire in Mallorca?

14 Jan
January 14, 2014

Thinking of heading to Mallorca for a training camp this year? Or maybe you off for a week with the family in the summer? Whatever your requirements, friend of Rutland CC and part time Mallorca resident Phil Axe has started a cycle hire company in Port de Pollensa, Mallorca.

If you want to rent a bike for a day or a month, www.mallorcabikehire.com is the only place you need to look !!!

These days with the amount it costs to transport your bike by plane and obviously the risks from damage that you face by trusting those baggage handlers, renting a bike instead makes a very compelling case. At mallorcabikehire.com Phil has assembled a quality fleet of Orbea’s, Felt’s and Moda’s so you will be getting a quality ride not a clunker! The pricing is also very competitive, being cheaper for a quality bike than some are charging for a basic bike.

Who knows if you let him know that you are Rutland member you might even talk him into a discount.

January 2014 Sunday club run.

01 Jan
January 1, 2014

I’m taking a bit of a punt here – the weather for Sunday is predicted to be s**t.  Also I haven’t sat on a bike since Christmas day.

So – I’m proposing to push the January ride back a week to Sunday 12th.  Depart from the wicker at 9:15 for a pleasant ride across the flatlands with the aim of hitting Ma Larkin’s again as we did last year.  larkin

If you can only negotiate one whole Sunday out per month then get yourself to the Wicker for the 12th and hopefully this sequence of North Atlantic cyclones we are having will have stopped.

If it isn’t chucking it down on the 5th I’ll be at the usual meeting place for a 9:15 depart, not looking good though.

If you are still reeling from too many mince pies you can meet us in Langold, probably sometime between 12:00 and 13:00
