Annual Dinner 2015

25 Oct
October 25, 2015

Roll up roll up guys, it’s that time of year again when you hang up the carbon wheels and dust off the crushed velvet suit and bow tie to see which of your names will be engraved alongside one hundred and ten years of cycling club history on our gleaming solid silver trophies.

This year for the small ticket price of £16.00, you will enjoy a beautiful three course meal, free entry into our club raffle, pleasurable viewing of the prize presentation and photo review of the year and if that wasn’t enough… This year paying homage to Jim Hall’s style of annual doo’s we’ve hired a traditional discoteque who will be spinning stong 70’s vibes until midnight.

If that wasn’t enough, the club will be putting on a free party bus heading into the city centre for anyone wanting to carry on grooving or just save some money on a taxi if your over that end of town.

Payment wise you can give cash to myself, Danny, Simon, Nick, Rob Fowler or use our handy Paypal option below.

Cash on the night is a possibility but not preferable as we’ll no doubt end up down the casino and throwing it all on red.

Finally dress code wise, this is our annual dinner so lets see some cooler looking cats this year like in the artwork above =)

Look forward to seeing you all there, Cheers Brendon

Obituary – Jim Hall

04 Aug
August 4, 2015

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that Jim Hall has passed away. Jim had been battling with lymphoma for a number of years now but after a three week spell in the Rotherham General Hospital he sadly lost his battle and died peacefully last night (3 August 2015) at around 6pm.
2015 has not been a good year for the Club as we have now lost four of our very dear friends.
Our thoughts at this time are with his wife Kate, his three sons Gavin, Devlin and Nathan and the rest of the family.

RIP Jim

Jim’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 19th August, 2:30pm at the Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium and then afterwards at The Abbeydale Sports Club.

The Nocturnal Teacake – 19th June 2015

09 Jun
June 9, 2015

The Summer Solstice is just around the corner which means it’s the time of year when we head out into our beloved Peak District by night to sample the sights, smells and long shadows cast by the almost midnight sun. This year we’ll be meeting an hour earlier to get the full golden glow down Abney with the warm feeling of a few rums inside our bodies. The Club will supply (and carry out) the Sailor Jerry’s and Havana club so all you need to bring is your own drinking glass and smokes. The Norfolk Arms has been booked as usual and I’m doing my best to get the triangle sandwiches back on silver platters but can’t promise. See you at 8 (ish).

RSVP via e-mail to brendon@rutland.cc so I can pre order your food and Rum!

Sadly he passed away today (Wednesday 29th April 2015).
There will be no funeral arrangements until after the 9th May as Georges cousin Mike is on holiday until then and he will be making the arrangements.
Any further updates will be posted on here and our Facebook page / Rutland Cycling Club (Sheffield)

Minty’s 2015 RR postponed until September.

March 7, 2015

Along with Andy’s health issues this year’s event was to clash with the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire and the Vets Tour of the Abberleys so it was decided to postpone Minty’s event until Sunday 6th September when hopefully there will be a few more Club members around to help promote the event.

Obituary – Malcolm Cross

05 Nov
November 5, 2014

Neil Cross has been in touch today to inform us that his father and long-time Rutland member Malcolm Cross passed away yesterday (4th Nov 2014). Many people especially the older members will know that he had a stroke 7 years ago, but had been living independently since. His health deteriorated recently and he had to stop doing his 15 mile hikes in the peaks last summer. He did take his bike out a few times after his stroke (one-handed and partly one-legged) which only stopped when he failed to mend his puncture and was probably a good idea all round.
Known as Koj to a lot of people Malc was part of the old Thursday night gang along with John Barnsley, Malc Pearce, Malc Elliott, Johnny Bargh, the Pickering brothers Les and Brian and Malc Chattle.

Malcolms’ funeral will be on Monday 17th November at St Timothy’s Church on Slinn Street, Crookes at 2.15 followed by the burial at Crookes Cemetery about 3ish, and then up to the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow from 4.30pm onwards. Any flowers to John Heath and Son.
