I received a phone call this evening with some very sad news from Keith Parker informing me that his brother in law Glynn Singleton passed away at home yesterday (27 Sept.2016)
Glynn turned this year 70 and had recently had a few health issues. There will be a post mortem tomorrow so I do not know any other details at this time.
This news has come as a complete shock to me.
I knew Glynn very well as we rode many events together when he came into the sport in the early 1990’s.
Our thoughts go out to the family especially his wife Barbara and their children James and Fay.

The Club dinner is booked for Saturday the 19th November at the Lees Hall Golf Club and tickets are £17.50 each.
The menu is as follows and there will be a vegetarian option.
Starter :- Cream of Vegetable Soup or Fan of Melon with a compôte of mulled wine forest fruits
Main :- Supreme of Chicken wrapped in bacon with a Forestiere sauce.
Dessert :- Choice of Sweet or Cheese & Biscuits followed by coffee.
Please let us know how many tickets you’d like via email or our Facebook page.
Chris “Max” Faulkner
Jayne, Emma, Gareth and Jonathan would like to express their thanks to all members of the Rutland CC who attended Chris’s funeral and for their kind donations to the nominated charities. The total amount raised in Chris’s memory was £1230.
They would also like to thank everyone for their kind words of support and sympathy shown, also for the floral tribute that was provided; all of which are very much appreciated.
I recceived a phone call last night informing me that Stuart (Joe) Thomspson passed away on the 24th June 2016.
Joe was in his late 80’s and riding for the Rutland CC was the National 24 Hour Champion way back in 1954 and was also part of the Club’s winning team in that event from 1955 – 1958.
The only details I have of Joe’s funeral are that it is in Ollerton on Monday 25th July at 2pm and then afterwards at the Lion Hotel in Worksop.
Some of you may have already heard over the weekend that one of our older members Chris Faulkner (aka Max) passed away suddenly on Thursday (30 June 2016).
Chris was a member of the Club during the late 70’s through to the 1990’s and worked at Tony Butterworths on Catchbar Lane. A change of job and location meant we didn’t see him for a few years as he relocated down on the South Coast but he then reappeared when he took over Tony’s shop and business when Tony retired.
Chris’s funeral will be on Wednesday 20th July, 2pm at St Mark’s Church Grenoside and then at the Grenoside Crematorium.
Refreshments and the wake will be in the Grenoside Church Hall, to which all are invited.
Well done to Jamie Burgan for his Fabulous entry in the Nocturnal teacake annual Drinking Chalice Competition. He called in the pet shop on his way home from work and bought a mouses drinking bottle.
That’s the kind of effort that get’s you the win. The judging was decided by a clapometer where the sound level of clapping between first second and third was staggeringly varying and there was no doubt at all that Jamie was the clear winner. Next year there will be no Plastic cups for the lame people that don’t bother, so roll on next year, cheers Bren
Sunday 24th July is the date for your diaries and is a day off from training and racing as it’s OUR turn to promote.
After last years problems hopefully this years will run smoothly and Steve Ellis is again organising the event on behalf of the Club but he needs OUR help.
The event will be held on the Braitwell circuit near Rotherham, a 10am start with the event being 65 miles.
Steve still has the list of helpers from last year and is hoping that those people will all be able to help out this year, he needs 5 cars/drivers and they have to be BC members and a minimum of 20 marshals.
If you can help then PLEASE get in touch with Steve on our Facebook page or direct via mobile / email.

The Summer Solstice is just around the corner which means it’s the time of year when we head out into our beloved Peak District by night to sample the sights, smells and long shadows cast by the almost midnight sun. There was talk of calling in at The Barrel for a pint but we’ll see how we’re going for time after the drinking chalice challenge around the Eyam stocks. The Norfolk Arms has been booked as usual and I’m going to do my best to get the triangle sandwiches back on silver platters but can’t promise.
MEET AT THE TEACAKE MEET, Bents Road AT 7PM
Remember to bring your lights and plenty of beer vouchers.
RSVP via e-mail to brendon@rutland.cc so I can give the pub an idea of how many to expect.
