Longstone Edge TT

The Club’s first open event takes place on Wednesday 22nd May on the Longstone Edge Circuit.
HQ is the Eyre Arms at Calver crossroads, first rider off at 19.01 in Stoney Middleton.

Kevin McNally has taken over the job of organising and this is his first event so please give him a shout and help him and the Club out, there’s even a free pint at the Eyre Arms for all helpers once the event has finished.

Obituary – Gerry Nugent

Sadly another of our older members Gerry Nugent passed away on Tuesday, 20th February, aged 88.

He was a proud member of Rutland Cycling Club virtually all his life and was cycling well into his 80’s.

Gerry’s funeral service is at 3pm, Thursday, 7th March, at Babworth Crematorium, Straight Mile, Babworth Road, Retford, DN22 8JF, for anyone who wishes to attend and remember him.

Any of his old cycling friends are also invited to celebrate his life straight after the funeral service at the Station Pub, Red Hill, Kiveton Park Station, Kiveton Park, Sheffield, S26 6NP.
A brief email to his son Darren daznugent@sky.com from anyone intending to attend would be appreciated to plan refreshment provision.

Obituary – Ken Horton

Ken Horton’s daughter Jackie emailed the Club last week to inform us that her Dad had sadly passed away aged 91 on the 30th January. The older generation will remember Ken and his wife helping out at many of the Club events during the 1970’s and 80’s as well as their son Tim turning out some very fast 10 and 25 times.
A cyclist most of his life and still cycling in his 80s, his funeral is on Friday 1st March, 2pm at Christ Church in Stocksbridge and later at 3pm at the Grenoside crematorium should anyone wish to remember him.

Having cancelled a few of the Club meetings last year we have booked The University Arms for this year’s AGM, 8pm on Friday 9th February in the usual upstairs darts room.

Obituary – Elaine Bullers (nee Herbert)

Elaine passed away peacefully on Tuesday 19th December 2023 in Chesterfield Royal Hospital and was 91 years old.

Elaine held most of the women’s Club records during the 1950’s and 60’s including the 10, 25, 50 and the 100 mile record of 4.44.43 set in 1960 which stood for 58 years.

Upon retiring from racing both Elaine and husband Denys were regularly found undertaking timekeeping, marshalling and race feed support duties on the many events against the clock (100 mile – 12hr & 24hr) that took place on the local North Midlands courses until the early 90s

Elaine’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 3rd January 2024, 10.50am at Chesterfield Crematorium – S43 1AU.

North Mids District TT Series 2023

The North Mids District Council have put together a series of time trials over the next few months to try and encourage people to pin a number on their back.

The Committee has decided to sanction three series of events for 2023.

1) TT bikes – 9 events best 4 events to count

2) Road Bikes – 6 events best 3 events to count

3) Hill Climbs – 13 events best 6 events to count

Andy Jones was out there taking photos which he usually posts on Instagram as well as Facebook and I did see Brian from Kimroy photography on the hill but he usually puts his photos on his website.

Former National Hill Climb Champion Andy Feather took first place in 5.40.7 ahead of reigning champion Tom Bell in 5.48.7 with third place going to Jude Taylor in 6.14.4
